On August 8, 2001, the Food and Drug Administration announced that Bayer had issued a voluntary recall of its cholesterol-lowering drug Baycol. Thirty-one deaths were attributed to a severe side effect of the product called rhabdomyolysis. This is where the muscles in the body can break down, releasing proteins and chemicals into the bloodstream. This causes the kidneys to be overwhelmed and possibly shut down. Symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include muscle pain, weakness, fever, dark urine, nausea and vomiting. If you have taken Baycol and believe you suffer from rhabdomyolysis, contact us toll free at 1-888-KEN-LAWW. Or click here to submit our online inquiry form.
