Oval: TELL KEN

Since the 1930s, several insurance companies have participated in the practice of charging "race-based insurance premiums" on what were called "burial policies" and/or "industrial life policies." African Americans were targeted for these higher insurance premiums based solely on the color of their skin.

Insurance companies continued this practice through the 1970s and worked hard at covering up their wrongdoing. The following insurance companies have been revealed to have been involved in such practices:

  • Metropolitan Life Insurance Company
    • Policy must have been purchased in 1973 or before
  • Life Insurance Company of Georgia
    • Policy must have been purchased in 1981 or before
  • United Insurance Company of America/Union National Life Insurance Company
    • Policy must have been purchased in 1975 or before
    • Mega Life, First Life Insurance and Vulcan Life have merged into United
    • Opt out date 07/22/02
  • Liberty National Life Insurance Company
    • Policy must have been purchased in 1975 or before
  • Liberty Life Insurance Company
    • Policy must have been purchased in 1986 or before

If you or someone you know has been sold a race-based insurance policy prior to the dates listed for each Insurance Company, contact us toll free at 1-888-KEN-LAWW. Or click here to submit our online inquiry form.
