Baldwin, GA (August 13, 2020) – Around 5 a.m. on Saturday, police assisted at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident in Baldwin.
The Clayton City Police Department received a call early in the morning that a man was found on Highway 441 Bypass around the area of Dunlap Street. When police arrived, they found a man lying on the side of the road covered in blood.
The victim, who was quickly identified as a 26-year-old man from Clayton, was allegedly walking to work at a local fast-food restaurant when a passing vehicle struck him. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident before police arrived.
The pedestrian was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by ambulance but, on the way there, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Police blocked off a portion of the roadway while they cleared the scene following the accident, which led to slight delays in the early morning hours.
Georgia State Patrol continues to seek information about the vehicle involved in the accident. Their investigation is currently ongoing.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
