Cairo, GA (March 18, 2019) – Police responded to a fatal motorcycle accident that happened along Highway 84 and resulted in the fatality of one person. The Georgia State Patrol was called to the scene of the accident around 7:45 a.m.
At the time, police say that a 36-year-old man had been traveling westbound on a motorcycle when his vehicle collided with the side of a gold SUV. A trooper at the scene claimed that the SUV driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic when she made a left turn on Highway 84.
It was determined that the motorcyclist had a green light and the SUV driver also had a green light, but while she was supposed to yield, she turned right in front of him. The 67-year-old woman had been traveling to drop her granddaughter off at an elementary school at the time of the crash.
The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital but tragically passed away while in the ambulance.
The SUV driver stopped her vehicle when she realized that it had been struck on the side. She then pulled into a nearby parking lot and waited for police to arrive. She could be facing possible charges at this time.
At this time, police are still investigating the accident.
We would like to take a moment to extend our genuine and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim who lost their life, with the hopes that they will be able to find peace during this difficult time.
