Dalton, GA – Officer Injured in Car Crash Following Police Chase on I-75

8/12 Atlanta, GA – Car Crash at Campbellton Rd & Fulton Industrial Rd Intersection

Dalton, GA (September 24, 2022) – Around 11:05 p.m. on the night of Thursday, September 22, an officer and suspect were injured in a car accident that took place on a highway in Dalton after a police chase.

According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-75 around the area of mile marker 328. Police confirmed that a Mini Cooper was traveling in the area and fled from a Ringgold Police Department officer at speeds of over 120 miles per hour. The Mini Cooper tried to pass the officer and started to drive at reckless speeds. At one point, a police officer attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the driver. When this was conducted, both vehicles left the side of the road and overturned. The driver of the Mini left the vehicle and ran into the woods on the side of the road.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Both the trooper and the suspect sustained injuries and were taken to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police charged the suspect with felony fleeing, reckless driving, and various other misdemeanors. The driver allegedly had several pounds of marijuana in the back of the vehicle.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
