Fort Valley, GA (December 17, 2019) – On Sunday night, a woman in her 20s was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident involving a tire on GA-49 in Fort Valley.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the collision, where they found that the woman was struck around 11 p.m. near a local trailer park. She was found unresponsive before the call was made.
When deputies arrived, they found the woman and took her to the Houston Medical Center. It was reported that she was out walking her dog around 10 p.m. and never returned home.
The woman’s fiancé found her down the road lying face down. It was believed that a tire flew off of a vehicle that never stopped and struck her, instantly killing her.
Police were able to locate a pickup truck further on down the road and found that it was missing a tire. They located the driver, identified as a 27-year-old man from the area. He has since been charged with failing to report an accident causing injury or death.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
