Griffin, GA (July 8, 2020) – Around 6:50 a.m. yesterday morning, July 7, a deputy was injured in a car accident that took place in Griffin.
The accident took place on Zebulon Road in the area of Deer Lake Drive near the Pike-Spalding county line. The 40-year-old deputy was on his way home from work when the driver of a Ford Explorer lost control of their vehicle in rainy conditions and hydroplaned into his vehicle.
The 57-year-old driver of the other vehicle told police that he was driving around 65 mph when he struck the puddle that caused him to lose control. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions and failure to maintain his lane. He received minor injuries.
The officer was taken to the hospital and suffered from a broken vertebrae, broken leg, and a gash on his head requiring stitches.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the accident at this time.
