Marietta, GA (January 14, 2020) – Cobb County Police responded to the scene of a fatal collision at Jamerson Road and Nevilly Way. They have since identified involved parties.
The collision, according to police, took place on January 12 around 7:14 p.m. Police found that a white Nissan was traveling west on Jamerson headed toward the intersection while a Kia Forte was traveling in the opposite direction.
For reasons that are not yet known, the driver of the Nissan lost control and drove into the other lane of traffic where it collided with the Kia.
The Nissan immediately caught fire. Bystanders arrived at the scene and were able to pull the driver out of the Nissan before it was fully engulfed. The driver of the Kia was trapped and was extricated by fire crews.
Police have since identified the driver of the Nissan as a 17-year-old woman from Kennesaw. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital and pronounced deceased while there.
The driver of the Kia was identified as a 16-year-old female who is in serious condition.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
