Oakwood, GA (July 8, 2020) – Around 3:45 p.m. on Monday afternoon, July 6, an officer was struck in a pedestrian crash at an Oakwood intersection.
The incident started when police officers clocked a Chevy Impala on McEver Road that was speeding well over the limit. Officers immediately tried to pull over the Impala, which fled the scene.
The officer followed the vehicle a while away to the intersection of Thurmon Tanner Parkway and Mindy Mill Road. Officers approached the vehicle so that they could get the suspect out of the vehicle. He reversed, immediately striking a police car. He then drove forward, hitting an officer who was on his feet.
The officer was injured as a result of the accident but is expected to make a full recovery.
When officers finally caught up with the driver on I-285, they found that he had wrecked the Impala. However, he was able to flee the scene on foot.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
