Richmond Hill, GA (April 30, 2019) – The Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene of a fatal accident that took the life of a Fort Stewart soldier this morning around 5:40 a.m. The soldier, who has not yet been identified by police, received a flat tire and was sitting in his vehicle along the eastbound lanes of Highway 144.
Suddenly, his vehicle was struck behind by another car, which caused both of them to spin out. The soldier was immediately taken to the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. He was tragically pronounced deceased while there.
The driver of the other vehicle was injured and taken to the hospital but is expected to recover. At this time, charges are pending.
Troopers continue their investigation into the accident.
We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the soldier whose life was taken in this accident.
