Thomson, GA (September 17, 2020) – On Thursday, September 17, a tow truck driver was killed in a fatal accident in Thomson.
The collision took place after another one in the same area this morning on I-20. According to McDuffie County officials, a crash had taken place in the eastbound lanes of I-20 near Cobbham Road. A tow truck driver was called to the scene of the accident.
According to police, the unidentified tow truck driver was attempting to load one of the damaged vehicles from the earlier accident onto their carrier. However, while they were doing so, a vehicle veered into the same lane and struck the driver.
Paramedics were called to the scene but the driver of the tow truck was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver responsible for striking the tow truck driver fled the scene of the accident and has not yet been identified.
A lane of I-20 was closed down for several hours while police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
