—— DEFINING THE INJURY

What Is a
Bard Powerport ?

Bard IPC (Implanted Port Catheter) — commonly called a PowerPort — is a small medical device surgically placed beneath the skin, typically near the chest or upper arm. It is designed to provide repeated, long-term access to the bloodstream for delivering chemotherapy, IV medications, nutrients, or for drawing blood — sparing patients the pain of repeated needle sticks.

Unlike a PICC line, the PowerPort is fully implanted under the skin and can remain in place for months or years. Patients undergoing ongoing cancer treatment, immunotherapy, or chronic disease management are among the most common recipients.

However, Bard’s PowerPort devices have been linked to serious, life-threatening complications — including catheter fractures that send device fragments into the bloodstream, dangerous bloodstream infections, and debilitating blood clots. Many of these injuries required emergency surgery or prolonged hospitalization.

—— Qualifying Injuries

What Injuries May Qualify?

Bard PowerPort lawsuits center on device defects that caused real, documented harm. If you suffered any of the following after receiving a Bard IPC implant, speak with an attorney today.

Ideal Injury Window: 3 Months to 3 Years After Implant

Injuries occurring within this window after your Bard IPC was implanted are the strongest candidates for a legal claim. If your injury happened outside this window, you may still qualify — contact us to discuss your specific situation.

Device Fracture & Breakage

The catheter or port body fractures or separates, potentially sending fragments migrating through the bloodstream toward the heart or lungs. This is a medical emergency requiring urgent intervention.

Infection (Local or Bloodstream)

Device-related infections can spread from the port site into the bloodstream, causing sepsis — a life-threatening, whole-body response that can lead to organ failure, amputations, or death.

Blood Clot / Thrombosis

Blood clots can form around the catheter tip or in surrounding vessels, causing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, or vessel blockages — all requiring emergency treatment.
