Mableton Car Accident and Injury Lawyers
Hurt on Veterans Memorial Highway, Mableton Parkway or I-20? Mableton has been a city since 2022, but Cobb County officers still answer its calls under an agreement that runs out in June 2027, and the city is building a police department of its own. That changes who has your report and how long you have to act. Our Atlanta office handles these cases. Zero fee unless we win.

Hurt on Veterans Memorial Highway, Mableton Parkway or out by Six Flags?
Mableton is the newest large city in Georgia. For most of a century it was a stretch of south Cobb County with a name on the mail and no government. Voters changed that in November 2022, and the first mayor and council took office in May 2023. Today roughly 79,000 people live inside a city of about 36 square miles. Smyrna sits to the north, Austell to the west, and the Chattahoochee River marks the southeast edge, with Fulton County on the far bank.
Here’s the catch with Mableton. The city is real, but the police car that pulls up after a wreck still says Cobb County on the door. The city pays Cobb County Police to patrol under a contract that lapsed for two weeks in June 2026 before a new one-year deal was signed, and Mableton is now hiring a department of its own. So the government you notify and the agency holding your report may not be the same, and the answer in 2027 may not be today’s. Maybe a driver ran the light where Mableton Parkway meets Veterans Memorial Highway. Maybe someone pulled out on Floyd Road, clipped you on the East-West Connector, or rear-ended you on I-20 at Riverside Parkway when the park let out. Now you’re sore, your car is in a tow yard and an adjuster wants a statement. Our Atlanta office handles Mableton cases and can work out whose ground you were on from a street name.
Don’t sign anything an insurance company sends you, whether it’s a statement, a medical release or a check, before you’ve talked with an attorney.
| Where it happened | Whose ground it is | What that can mean for you |
|---|---|---|
| Veterans Memorial Highway, Mableton Parkway, Floyd Road, Factory Shoals Road, Old Alabama Road and the East-West Connector | The City of Mableton, in Cobb County | Cobb County Police write the report for now. A claim against the city runs on a six-month notice clock. |
| Six Flags Over Georgia and the Riverside Parkway and Six Flags Parkway exits off I-20 | Inside Mableton, even though the park carries an Austell mailing address | Cobb County Police or a state trooper writes the report. The park is a private business, so a fall inside the gates is a claim against the operator, not a government. |
| West across the line on Veterans Memorial Highway toward downtown Austell | The City of Austell | Austell Police write the report, and Austell is the government to notify, on six months |
| North across the line on South Cobb Drive or Floyd Road toward Smyrna | The City of Smyrna | Smyrna Police write the report, and Smyrna is the government to notify, on six months |
| Across the river on I-20 | Fulton County, in the City of Atlanta | A different county, police department and courthouse. Call us and we will sort it out. |
| A lawsuit over any of these | Usually tied to who you sue and where they are based | Often the State Court of Cobb County, at 12 East Park Square in Marietta |
So “my case is in Mableton” needs one more question: which rules? The city’s six-month clock, the county’s twelve because a county officer or county road was involved, or a neighbor’s because you had crossed the line? A Mableton mailing address reaches into Austell and unincorporated Cobb, so it proves little. For how the county side works, read about Cobb County rules for Mableton crashes.
Car and truck accidents in Mableton
Most Mableton crashes happen on Veterans Memorial Highway, Mableton Parkway, Floyd Road, Factory Shoals Road, the East-West Connector and I-20 at the Riverside Parkway and Six Flags Parkway exits. The two highways are state routes lined with shopping centers, and the mix of commuters, delivery vans and freight trucks on them can change who may be responsible for your injuries.
A wreck with a delivery van, a box truck or a rideshare driver headed for the park can bring a commercial policy and an employer into the claim. We start by finding every policy behind car wreck claims in Mableton. If a tractor-trailer hit you on I-20 near Riverside Parkway or on Veterans Memorial Highway by the industrial parks, read how we handle Mableton truck crashes. Were you on a motorcycle? Our page for riders hurt in Mableton explains what changes on two wheels.
Veterans Memorial Highway and Mableton Parkway are hard on people on foot, wide and fast, with bus stops, apartments and long gaps between crossings. If a car hit you or someone you love walking to a bus stop or across a parking lot entrance, read about pedestrians hit in Mableton. The other side is quick to blame the person on foot. We are not.
Falls, dog bites and workplace injuries in Mableton
Falls in stores and parking lots, dog bites and injuries at work happen across Mableton, from the shopping centers on the East-West Connector and Floyd Road to the warehouses along Riverside Parkway. Who owned or controlled the spot where you were hurt decides how the claim works, and if a government owned it, the rules get stricter.
If you slipped on a wet floor or tripped on a broken curb in a parking lot, our page on Mableton slip and fall claims explains what an owner had to know. Hurt on the job in a warehouse or on a construction site? Workers’ comp has its own forms and deadlines, and our workers’ comp help for Mableton workers walks through them. If you fell on a city sidewalk or in a city park, call us early, because the city’s notice clock is short. On a county road or at a county facility, the county’s longer clock applies instead. Some claims against governments are limited by law.
Serious injuries and wrongful death
A serious wreck on I-20 or Veterans Memorial Highway can change a south Cobb family’s life in one afternoon. The closest hospital, Wellstar Cobb in Austell, is a Level III trauma center, so the worst injuries often ride past it to Grady or Kennestone. A brain injury, a spinal injury or a death means years of care to pay for.
Early offers arrive before anyone knows those costs. If your family lost someone, read about wrongful death claims after a Mableton crash. If the harm happened during treatment afterward, our page on when hospital care after a Mableton wreck makes things worse explains the extra steps Georgia requires. Our guide to trauma care after a Mableton crash explains why the ambulance passed the closer hospital. Kenneth S. Nugent, P.C. has helped injured Georgians since 1980. You pay nothing up front, and there’s zero fee unless we win.
How long do you have to file a claim in Mableton?
A claim against a driver or a business in Georgia generally has a two-year deadline to file suit. If a government played a part, written notice can be due much sooner. For the City of Mableton, that’s generally six months. For Cobb County or the state, generally twelve. In Mableton the two often overlap.
| Who you’re claiming against | What usually comes first | How long, generally |
|---|---|---|
| The driver, or the company the driver worked for | A claim with their insurer, then a lawsuit if needed | Two years to file suit, under O.C.G.A. § 9-3-33 |
| The City of Mableton | A written ante litem notice to the city | Six months, under O.C.G.A. § 36-33-5 |
| The City of Austell or the City of Smyrna, for a crash just across the line | A written ante litem notice to that city | Six months, under O.C.G.A. § 36-33-5 |
| Cobb County, including a crash with a county police car inside Mableton, or a county road | A written notice to the county | Twelve months, under O.C.G.A. § 36-11-1 |
| The State of Georgia, for a defect on a state route such as Veterans Memorial Highway, Mableton Parkway or I-20 | A written ante litem notice to the state | Twelve months, under O.C.G.A. § 50-21-26 |
| Six Flags Over Georgia or another private property owner | A claim with the operator’s insurer | Two years to file suit, like any private business |
Ante litem is Latin for “before the lawsuit.” It’s a letter a government must get before it can be sued. Here is why Mableton is different. In Smyrna or Austell, the city owns the sidewalks and employs the officers. In Mableton the city owns the sidewalks and parks, but the officers work for Cobb County. A pothole on a city street is the city’s to answer for, on six months. A crash with the patrol car that came to work it is generally the county’s, on twelve. Same wreck, two clocks.

Who has your crash report in Mableton?
As of October 2026, Cobb County Police answer calls and write crash reports inside Mableton under a one-year agreement the city and county signed on June 15, 2026. It runs to June 14, 2027, and the city wants its own department on the street by then. The answer below is today’s answer. Check the agency on the officer’s card.
| Where it happened | Who usually responds | Who to ask for the report |
|---|---|---|
| Anywhere inside Mableton from June 15, 2026 onward | Cobb County Police, from Precinct 2 on Austell Road, under the agreement with the city | Cobb County Police Central Records, 545 South Fairground Street in Marietta, or the department’s online portal with your case number |
| Inside Mableton between June 1 and June 15, 2026 | The same Cobb officers, sworn in for two weeks as deputies of the Cobb County Sheriff after the old agreement ran out | Cobb County Police. The report may carry the Sheriff’s name instead. |
| Inside Mableton once a Mableton Police Department starts work | The city’s own officers, if the department launches on the schedule announced | Mableton Police. Call us and we will confirm who had the report on your date. |
| Across the Austell or Smyrna line | Austell Police or Smyrna Police | That city’s police department |
| I-20, Veterans Memorial Highway or Mableton Parkway | A Cobb County officer or a Georgia State Patrol trooper | The agency named on the officer’s card |
| A CobbLinc bus on Veterans Memorial Highway, Floyd Road or Mableton Parkway | The police agency for that spot, and Cobb County runs the buses | That agency for the report, and the county to notify |
Cobb County Police post crash reports online and at the records counter in Marietta, usually within a few business days. Tickets written in Mableton can go to two courts. The city opened its own municipal court, and which citations go there instead of the State Court of Cobb County was part of the dispute that let the old agreement lapse, so check the court printed on your citation.
