Byron, GA (May 3, 2023) – Around 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning, May 3, two people sustained critical injuries in a truck accident in Byron.

According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-75 around the area of the Watson Boulevard exit. Police confirmed that a driver was in a Hyundai Santa Cruz when they slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer due to reasons that are not entirely known. The Hyundai was then pinned underneath the back of the truck, which trapped the two individuals inside it.

Several responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help. Rescue crews took approximately two hours to free the two passengers from inside the Hyundai. The parties were taken to Atrium Health Navicent for treatment of critical injuries. Their current conditions are not yet known.

Two out of three lanes of traffic were blocked for some time after the collision. Police had the scene fully cleared by 6:38 a.m.

No further details have been released, but the investigation into the accident continues.
