Actos Diabetic Drug

Kenneth S. Nugent, P.C. > Actos Diabetic Drug

Actos – Diabetic Drug linked to Bladder Cancer

Actos, is a prescription medicine manufactured by Takeda Pharmacedicals Co, ltd. Actos comes in a pill form that is used by type 2 diabetic in conjunction with their normal sugar control program. It is not recommended for use by Type 1 “juvenile” diabetics or diabetics with ketoacidosis.

Atos was design to help Type 2 Diabetics by aiding your body make better use of the insulin it naturally makes. It was also aiding the body by lowering or stopping the sugar that your liver naturally produces. These two benefits helped diabetics to lower overall blood sugars levels and thus helped in maintaining long term blood glucose levels.

July 11, 2011 both Germany and France have suspended the sales of Actos. Studies have found that Actos patients have a higher risk of:

  • Bladder Cancer
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Liver problems
  • Rhabdomyolysis and Kidney Failure
  • Increased risk of fractures

These risks are serious enough that the FDA has made announcements of these potential risks and required stronger warnings on Astos’s packaging.
