Jones, popularly known as Bobby Jones, was a famous Augusta-born amateur golfer who is considered one of the most influential golfers of all time. A lawyer by profession, Jones was the founder of the Augusta National Golf Club and the co-founder of the prestigious Masters Golf Tournament. The designs and innovations he implemented during the construction of the Augusta National Golf Club have been adopted by all modern golf-course designers. Jones was born in Atlanta and lived there for the rest of his life.
Forrest was a world boxing champion who dominated the lineal welterweight and the super welterweight classes during the turn of the 21st century. The 2002 Fighter of the Year was a native of Augusta; born and raised. His untimely death came in 2009 when he was robbed and murdered in cold blood at a gas station in Atlanta.
Bollea, popularly known by the ring name Hulk Hogan, is a retired professional wrestler who has featured in dozens of action films over the years. He is also a renowned television personality and entrepreneur. Formerly signed to the World Wrestling Entertainment, Bollea was born in Augusta, Georgia, but currently has residences in both Beverly Hills, California and Clearwater, Florida. Bollea is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of the 20th century.
Fishburne, The Matrix trilogy star man, is a famous actor, producer, and film director who also traces his roots back to Augusta. Also featured on Apocalypse Now, King of New York, and Deep Cover, the award-winning actor has dated and married several famous actresses including Gina Torres, Victoria Dillard, and Hajna O. Moss and considered one of the most influential actors in the world. Fishburne currently lives in Hollywood and owns a second residence in one of the elite suburbs of New York City.
Other notable people who have at one point or another called Augusta home include former MMA fighter Forrest Griffin, golfer Charles Howell III, gymnast Bailie Key, and former Federal Reserve chairman Ben S. Bernanke just to mention a few.
