Michael Jancey Baird

Popularly known as “Briny”, Baird is a Florida-born professional golfer who competed on the Buy.com Tour and the PGA Tour. Baird started playing competitive golf in Miami Country Day before Joining Georgia Tech and later, Valdosta State University. It was during his time at Valdosta that his years of practice paid off and he has crowned the NCAA Division II champion for two consecutive years. Baird has not won any other major championship or tour event since and has been out action since 2014 due to medical reasons. He is however ranked as one of the best paid golfers who have not won even a single PGA Tour.

Alfred Corn

Corn is an award-winning poet and writer who was born in Decatur County and raised up in the city of Valdosta. He published dozens of poem books and publications and was one of the most talented poets during the late 90s. Corn also held permanent and temporary teaching jobs with over half a dozen institutions of higher learning in the nation.

Louis Emanuel Lomax

Born in Valdosta, Lomax was a celebrated journalist and author who is mostly remembered for being the first television journalist of African-American descent. Lomax attended Paine College in the Georgian city of Augusta where he served as the student newspaper editor. He later attended the American University and Yale University, earning an M.A. and a Ph.D. in the process. Lomax was also an ardent supporter of the civil rights organizations. His untimely death at the age of 47 years was a big blow to the African-American community in the United States.

Pauley Perrette

Perrette is a popular actress, singer, writer, and civil rights activist. She rose to fame after appearing prominently in the first 15 seasons of NCIS where she was portrayed as Abby Sciuto. A graduated of Valdosta State University, Perrette was a short-time resident of Valdosta city.
