One of the mounds is 17 meters high and features an underground cave which is believed to have been used as a temple of sorts by the Mississippians. Spend a day at the Amerson River Park

Billed as one of the premier tourist destinations in Macon, the Amerson River Park features over 200 acres of thick forests, wetlands, and meadows along the Ocmulgee River. There is also a 7-mile trail system that leads to hilly areas and bluffs that offer a panoramic birds-eye view of this picturesque park and its surroundings. The river, on the other hand, is ideal for kayaking, canoeing and float tubing. Other notable features of the park include a wheelchair-accessible playground and shaded picnic areas. Take a tour of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame

Also located in Macon, this fine piece of architecture is home to the largest collection of sporting history in the State of Georgia. The facility features a Hall of Fame and an exhibits section for all kinds of sports including a section dedicated to preserving the State’s greatest sporting moments. Being a family-friendly museum, there are plenty of interactive exhibitions and hands-on activities for the kids to enjoy.

Catch an event at the Macon Centreplex

Popularly known for hosting multiple regional events in central Georgia, the Macon Centreplex is a sight to behold. Constructed in 1968, the structure is the site of the Macon Coliseum, a 9,000-seat sporting complex that formerly served as the home ground for professional teams and currently used by the Macon Mayhem hockey team. It is also the location of the Macon City Auditorium, a state-of-the-art facility that seats up to 2,700 people. You can schedule your visit during a match day and watch a hockey match, or attend one of the many annual events and festivals that take place at the Centreplex.
