Atlanta, GA (May 17, 2021) – At 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, May 16, a trooper was injured in a car accident on a highway in Atlanta.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened on the Downtown Connector. Two troopers were working in the area of a construction zone when they were struck by a vehicle while in their cruiser with the emergency lights activated. The driver who struck them was accused of driving while intoxicated.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were present at the scene. One of the troopers was injured but not taken to the hospital. The driver of the Hyundai that struck them was injured and hospitalized.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
