Augusta, GA (May 28, 2021) – At 9:24 p.m. on Monday night, May 24, a fatal pedestrian accident happened on a major roadway in Augusta.

According to Richmond County officials, the accident happened at 2400 Mike Padgett Highway around the area of Nixon Road. An 18-year-old female pedestrian was crossing the roadway in the area when she was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle traveling in the area.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian was taken to Augusta University Medical Center but was pronounced deceased around 9:53 p.m.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
