Clarkesville, GA (September 23, 2021) – At 7:15 a.m. on Thursday morning, September 23, a bus accident occurred on a major roadway in Clarkesville.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened near Hollywood on US-441. A 54-year-old male bus driver was driving his bus on the highway when he suddenly failed to yield. The bus ran into a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the area. The bus ran off the side of the road and slammed into a guardrail. The driver of the Jeep lost control and also ran off the road where the vehicle struck a railing and caught on fire.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. The driver of the bus, as well as the 16-year-old female driver of the Jeep, were both taken to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. They are expected to recover.

Police confirmed that the driver of the bus was charged with failing to yield for his role in the accident.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
