Austell, GA – Family Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Veterans Memorial Hwy
Austell, GA (October 5, 2021) – At 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, October 5, a family sustained harm in a wrong-way crash in Austell.
According to Cobb County Police, the accident happened on the Veterans Memorial Highway around the area of Davis Street. A man was driving a white van in the area and was allegedly swerving across multiple traffic lanes. The vehicle then crashed into a family riding in a pickup truck. There were approximately five people inside the truck at the time.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The victims inside the pickup truck were all taken to the hospital but they are expected to recover. The driver of the van was also hospitalized. It is believed that he was driving under the influence of drugs at the time.
The roadway was blocked in multiple lanes for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
