Atlanta, GA – Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision at Lee St & Sylvan Rd Intersection

Atlanta, GA (March 20, 2023) – A woman was killed in a fatal hit-and-run accident that took place at an intersection in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon, March 19.

According to Atlanta Police, the accident happened around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lee Street and Sylvan Road. Police confirmed that a man was traveling on Lee Street in the wrong direction inside his Ford F-250. He suddenly struck a Chevrolet Silverado, a Ford Fiesta, and a Saturn Vue before his vehicle came to a stop. He then got out of his vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Saturn, who has since been identified as a 42-year-old woman, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. She was tragically pronounced deceased while there. Police did not say if anybody else was hurt in the collision.

Police later discovered that the driver who fled the scene of that initial collision was involved in a second accident on I-20. The party, identified as a 45-year-old man, was in two different city vehicles at the time of the collisions. He tried to flee the second accident but was stopped by the police.

Police claim that the hit-and-run driver was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, first-degree homicide by vehicle, hit-and-run, and more.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues. Police will update with new information as it becomes available.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim whose life was taken in this horrific accident.
