Pooler, GA (April 19, 2023) – One person lost their life in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident that took place on a roadway in Pooler on the morning of Monday, April 17.

According to Pooler Police Department officials, the accident happened around 12:28 a.m. on Pine Barren Road near the area of the West Chatham Middle School. Police confirmed that a person was crossing the street in the area near the school when they were suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The victim, who has not yet been formally identified, was severely injured in the accident. They were tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to those injuries.

Due to the severity of the accident, a large portion of the road was blocked in the area for some time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

Police did not say if the driver responsible for the accident was caught or what charges they could be facing.

The investigation into the collision continues. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
