Gibson, GA (April 25, 2023) – An elderly woman was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident that took place on a roadway in Gibson on the morning of Tuesday, April 25.

According to Jefferson County officials, the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Avera-Edgehill Road. Police confirmed that an elderly woman was walking in the area and started to cross the street. She was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle traveling through the area due to reasons that are not entirely known. Police confirmed that the driver remained at the scene.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The 70-year-old woman, who is said to walk that stretch of road every morning, was seriously injured in the accident. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment but has been listed in stable condition since.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes until police were able to fully clear the scene.

No further details have been released at this time. The investigation into the collision continues.
