Chatsworth, GA (August 1, 2020) – On Wednesday night, two people were killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash on GA-61.
The Georgia State Patrol confirmed that two vehicles were headed north on GA-61 around the area of Hooker Road. A silver sedan was traveling behind a Ford Mustang. The sedan sped up when it struck the Mustang.
Witnesses who spoke with police said that the sedan nudged the Mustang a few times before the driver lost control of the Mustang, driving off the road and overturning on its passenger side. It then struck a tree. There was debris scattered all over the roadway in the area.
Two people in the Mustang, identified as a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the sedan fled the scene of the accident. GSP reported that they have not yet been found as of Friday.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.
