Savannah, GA (March 26, 2019) – In Savannah this past week, a 70-year-old was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash that took place around 6:30 a.m. on West Bay Street. The pedestrian has since been identified by the Savannah Police Department but they have not released his name to the public.
At the time of the incident, the pedestrian was trying to cross West Bay Street near Fahm Street. Suddenly, a Ford traveling on the same road, came along and struck the pedestrian.
Police are not sure which directions the pedestrian and vehicle were traveling at at that time. Police did not confirm whether or not the pedestrian was inside a crosswalk at the time. The pedestrian was initially critically injured in the accident. However, he was soon pronounced dead at the scene from severe trauma.
The driver of the Ford was okay following the accident. He was identified as a 46-year-old from Savannah.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.
