Stephens Co, GA – Toddler Girl Drowns in Lake Hartwell at Ridgemore Cir
Stephens Co, GA (September 19, 2021) – A deadly drowning incident involving one victim was reported on Sunday afternoon, September 19, in the Stephens County area.
A 19-month-old toddler died after drowning in Lake Hartwell, per authorities with the Stephens County Coroner’s Office.
According to a release from Coroner Christ Stephens, authorities contacted their office about the drowning around 1:30 p.m. The incident reportedly occurred near Ridgemore Circle. Several agencies from both Stephens County and Oconee County responded to the incident.
Stephens said first responders recovered the body of the child around 3:30 p.m. They identified the victim as a 19-month-old girl, and the coroner will perform an autopsy at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta.
It’s unclear if the girl’s parents or guardians were with her when the drowning occurred. Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office say they will provide more information in the coming days but have not provided further information at this time.
